Direction

I'm not really sure what has come over me these past couple of days, but I have become a little overwhelmed by the feeling of having no sense of direction in my life. I have lived in Hawaii for 4 months now, have become pretty comfortable being on my own and have had countless fun adventures, so now what? Where do I go from here? I'm starting to feel like I have accomplished the adventure I sought here, and am now yearning for something with a little more direction for the future. Should I be back in school, working at a more serious job, taking classes to earn my professional teacher's license, earning a culinary certificate to pursue my love of cooking/food? Ughhhhh ... it is weird to go from a life that is so laid out for you (school, then college, then career) to one that has no real step by step timeline to follow ...

Any words of wisdom or advice would be much appreciated : )

  1. Katie what seems so daunting to you now presents as a dream situation to some of your followers! If those of you who enjoy this Blog, would respond and let Katie know all the changes you've made in your life "choices" since 22, she may not feel so overwhelmed. (If you don't know how to comment ask your children or a friend) Katie I'm sorry to say typically all our choices in life have pros and cons and rarely are the big decisions easy to make. As we get older responsibilities often dictate our actions, at 22 you get to choose your path with less contributing factors.
Kate it may help to realize your age gives you the opportuniy to make choices that may not turn out or change with time.
Come on family and friends give Katie some of your "Words of Wisdom"

  2. you could join the peace corps, they have programs in health and education, so you could start a new adventure and use your education to give your life more direction.

  3. wish I could help but I'm in the same position and I haven't even chosen my major yet :/. All I can say is that, in my opinion, what you're doing now is going to be more fulfilling than any boring day job. I feel like a "more serious job" is only a fake sense of direction because you're just getting lost in a daily routine to the point where you push these thoughts you're having to the back of your head and forget about them.(unless of course you love your job) I'd rather be in the position to ask what adventure should I go on next, then to be stuck in a serious job and not have that opportunity. You should really think about whether or not you want to leave Hawaii. and if you do, come home and spend some time with your friends and family for awhile, then maybe go live in another country [preferably somewhere with waves :) ] and teach or learn to cook or until you find something you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life and then find a way to actually do it for the rest of your life. but whatever you do next, don't get a serious job, cause before you know it you'll regret not taking more adventures when you were young. I'm not sure you can understand this from reading it but it made sense in my head.

  4. Wow... Big ?.... I gave this alot of thought because I too know what it is like to be searching. I have been there several times in my life & more than likely you will face this feeling many times in your life. What I did was "interview" my friends, family even people I hardly knew. Found out a lot too as to what motivates change in people's lives. Usually just like you, a feeling of yearning for something else. Keep searching till you feel fulfilled, but know too that will change over time & you will face this feeling again. But thank God you will, it means you are growing & not standing still. Also, pray! God knows your heart & has a grand plan for you!
