I have been trying to get motivated to start regularly exercising for some time now. So much harder than it sounds. I go on hikes here and there, surf once in a while, and have been on a few sporadic runs in the past few months. I'm not the weight I feel the most comfortable and while I already eat very healthfully (minus when my sweet tooth gets the best of me), exercise is the answer. Last night I started my quest to lose 15 pounds. I went on a 3 mile run around the park and zoo and it felt pretty good. Especially afterwards. The during is just was just okay haha. Today I am planning another run around the park. It is so weird how hard it is to get up and just go run. The run isn't even the worst part, it's the dread before. If I can just get my sneakers on I've already won half the battle.
I miss the days of high school sports where you exercised for hours with your friends and actually had fun burning calories. I have been trying to find adult sports leagues and running groups without much success. Jacksonville was a little better in this department, and whenever I do return, I plan on taking full advantage of this fact.
What do you think are the best ways to get and stay motivated to get regular, intense exercise?? (Dad, runner of a bazillion years??)
you have to make it fun. It will keep you from dreading it every time. You also HAVE to set goals (mile times, loose a pound every week, swim a certain distance). This way when you reach your goals it will give you a sense of accomplishment and keep you motivated to achieve your next goal. Then once you get into a routine it becomes much easier to follow, and of course nothing is more motivating then seeing results. it also helps to get a workout buddy. fortunately for you, I'll be there in a week and we'll definitely be able to find some fun exercises to do. and if nothing else works just watch this video, it's pretty freakin motivational.

ReplyDeletewith that said, the thing that keeps me motivated to keep running is the one or two races I do a year, and I don't want to lose ( like to some kid) and live with that for a year. any time you stop running it takes a long time to gain back where you were(in times and miles). So I keep plugging away.
I do remember a time in the very hot summer, I was over it. When it was time to restart, I told my self, just but on the shoes and go around the block, well around the block was not good enough, so I eventually went back to my running routine.
Other than this I got nothing!
